Challenge

DownUnder GeoSolutions (DUG) wanted to increase computing performance by 5 to 10 times to improve seismic processing. The solution must build on current architecture software investments without sacrificing existing software and scale computing without scaling IT infrastructure costs.

The TriRivers system allows doctors to access critical healthcare applications as well as consult in real-time to UW Health for eICU and other services. Top priorities are maintaining a clean, reliable supply of power across the network and receiving warnings and intervening before a potential problem can result in downtime. Data security for patients is another major concern.
Instead of tags, OEM sensor manufacturers and suppliers work with sensors. Different sensor interfaces can readily be included for overall management. OEM sensor manufacturers wanted a single user interface that can interact with different sensors and manufacturers in a beneficial and efficient manner.

Storage tanks are irregular in shape and a certain amount of mathematical modelling is required to get an accurate representation of volume and, more importantly, the weight of material in each tank. In addition, countries have different emission regulations, so the ships position needed to be accurately known in order to geotag emission data.

Due to Finder's steady growth in the market, Finder needed to upgrade its IT infrastructure to meet the requirements such as increase data availability and storage capacity plus ensure a robust business continuity plan. Any new solution also had to be scalable to match a future expansion of the business.

The challenge for the city of Miami is to create a greener and more efficient city. To achieve this, Florida Power and Light is deploying North America’s largest networked street lighting program to connect and control more than 500,000 street lights.

Federal law requires pipeline operators to monitor areas where large numbers of people reside or gather within close proximity to their pipelines. These high consequence areas (HCAs) are classified based on nearby structures, population density, and business use. HCA designations impact the pipe’s maximum allowable operating pressure (MAOP), size, and inspection requirements.

Without continuous connectivity, real-time data is really hard to deliver for any cloud service provider. The number of IoT devices with cellular connections will nearly quadruple over the next five years with increasing LTE subscriptions and access to 5G networks, according to Ericsson’s bi-annual Mobility Report. At the same time, ensuring reliable connectivity, while being mindful of security and device management as IoT implementations scale, continues to be a challenge for industrial IoT use cases.

Solution

DUG deployed SGI Rackable cluster powered by Intel coprocessors and Intel Xeon processor. DUG was able to scale its software to the latest highly parallel architecture for faster seismic processing and imaging while enhancing algorithmic gains in existing software.

As the heart of the end-to-end Eaton power management solution, the double conversion design of the Eaton 9390 backup power system provides TriRivers with the highest level of protection, safeguarding equipment against the most common power problems. AEMS (Adroit Environmental Monitoring System) is a framework that integrates SCADA, Alarm Management & Reporting, and Data Warehousing Intelligence into a unified application designed for ease of configuration from a single user interface. AEMS provides a common ‘look and feel’ for system users, and is designed to allow OEM suppliers and sensor manufacturers to implement their own ‘plugins’ which work within the framework.

Adroit SCADA enables engineers to model irregular tank shapes easily, enabling real-time display of the amount of material in each tank during the loading stage of the vessel. Adroit SCADA can interface to a gas analyser, enabling the system to read emission data from the ships engine and display it in real time. Working with Dell partner VAR Group, Finder’s new solution is based on three Dell servers with a Dell controller delivering a scalable, high-performance storage area network, which has an identical setup at a remote site for backup and disaster recovery.

OmniEarth’s High Consequence Area offering automatically monitors changes within the pipeline corridor, allowing pipeline operators to minimize the cost and effort required to maintain regulatory standards. In this new HCA product, OmniEarth combines imagery based change detection algorithms, zoning information, and tax data in a cost-effective, cloud-based portal. Flexible tools, automatic notifications, and mobile accessibility make it easy to for operators to see areas with relevant changes and share data with field teams to streamline their integrity management process.

It stands to reason then that GoodMeasure, a long-time customer of Electric Imp, is quite excited about the recent debut of the vendor’s cellular connectivity functionality.
